WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?
Spiritual Direction is a process that can help you deepen your relationship with God. Through regular meetings with a Spiritual Director, you can become more aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life. This can help you better recognize how the Lord is moving in your heart and mind, and how you can respond to God’s call.
WHO AND WHAT IS A SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR?
Jennifer Lindner, M.A., our Spiritual Director, will be your guide and companion who will walk with you through this process as you journey deep into your faith. She will help you develop your relationship with God and encounter Him more intimately in daily life. Jennifer is a graduate of the Divine Mercy University Spiritual Direction Certificate (SDC) program. This intensive two-year program combines both Catholic theology and the human sciences as they relate to spiritual development.
HOW DOES SPIRITUAL DIRECTION WORK?
Spiritual Direction at Integrity Counseling Services begins with a free 15-minute consultation in which you and Jennifer will identify and discuss your spiritual needs and desires. This will aid in developing your customized plan for spiritual growth. You will then meet with Jennifer monthly for 45 or 60-minute sessions where you will discuss your spiritual journey. Jennifer’s role will be to listen for how the Holy Spirit is moving in your life, ask questions, and offer guidance. Spiritual Direction sessions will continue for as long as you feel they are helping you deepen your faith and develop a more intimate relationship with God.
HOW DOES SPIRITUAL DIRECTION DIFFER FROM THERAPY?
While Spiritual Direction can incorporate some therapeutic aspects in its methods, it is not psychological therapy. Spiritual Direction focuses on your relationship with God, how He is moving in your heart, and calling you to deeper intimacy with Him. Although Spiritual Direction is not meant to directly address psychological or mental health issues, by supporting your relationship with God, it can open your heart and mind to greater opportunities for spiritual and emotional wellness and healing.
